Wendy
To close out our 50th year, we wanted to sit down with one of New Hope Community’s longest residents. Enter: Wendy! At 68 years old, Wendy has been part of the New Hope family since December 7, 1975 (so, almost exactly 50 years to the day!).
When she’s not attending day program, Wendy enjoys relaxing, dressing to the nines with purse in hand, and helping out in the kitchen. Get to know her!
Q: You’ve been a resident here at New Hope since 1975. What do you remember most about the early days?
A: I remember the old hotel. And I remember the lunch lines… They served okay food back then.
Q: Over the years, many things have changed. What’s a change you’ve noticed?
A: Well, the food has gotten a lot better, and my house as well. I enjoy not having to wait in a cafeteria line anymore.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I like to play bingo, paint, and make jewelry. I also love to help out in the kitchen any chance I get.
Q: What is your daily routine like?
A: Every day I get up to attend my day program, and make sure I have my fancy jewelry on, and my purse. When I get home, I enjoy a snack and sit down to add stickers to my sticker book or watch my favorite TV show, The Nanny.
Q: Is there anything else you wanted to tell us?
A: I’ve had the opportunity to do anything I’ve wanted. I have enjoyed my life here.
A bit more about Wendy: Her House Manager, Bionca, shared that Wendy has a mind of her own, and isn’t afraid to tell staff what she does and does not want to do. She’s not a fan of bad weather and would much prefer to stay inside where it’s cozy until conditions improve, and we can’t blame her! Wendy is also a very lucky bingo player, and enjoys being around her staff, who she always keeps on their toes.
