Help Build What Comes Next
A kitchen designed for learning, independence, and growth
Right now, people are learning, trying new things, and growing in meaningful ways. In our kitchen, people we support are planning meals, shopping for ingredients, building skills, and sharing experiences together. They are making choices, gaining confidence, and taking ownership from start to finish.
Every person deserves the opportunity to shape their own life. At New Hope Community, that means creating environments where people can grow, take risks, build relationships, and discover what is possible. Skills like cooking, meal planning, and nutrition are essential building blocks for independence, maintaining health, and participating fully in community life.
There is already a foundation to build on. Within our current kitchen space, people are coming together to learn, try new things, and grow. But the environment was not designed to support this level of engagement, and its limitations prevent us from expanding what is already working.
We are creating something meaningful. But there is more opportunity ahead. We have a plan to reimagine the SHS Kitchen into a space designed for learning, independence, and growth.
A moment in the kitchen
It came together around a cultural class for St. Patrick’s Day, when the group chose to make Shepherd’s Pie and followed the process from start to finish. They selected a recipe, built a grocery list, went shopping, and returned ready to work.
Vegetables were washed, potatoes and carrots peeled, and ingredients chopped and seasoned. The meat cooked on the stove while others mashed potatoes and prepared the dish for the oven.
There were tears from the onions and a lot of encouragement and laughter along the way.
The space was tight. People scooched past one another, bumped elbows, shared peelers and knives, and crowded around the table. With no demonstration area, staff worked hand over hand to guide each step, and everyone took turns at the sink.
It was busy. It was imperfect. And it worked.
People who had never made this before saw it through, sat down together, and tried something new that they had prepared themselves.
The People. The Impact.
- Nearly 100 people currently use the kitchen regularly
- Select Connects, R&R, STEAM, Girl’s Group, and cultural programming
- Daily life skills, including cooking, budgeting, and decision-making

Your gift builds what comes next
Even with the limitations of the current space, people are learning, growing, and gaining confidence every day.
They are trying new foods.
They are building relationships.
They are developing skills that carry into their homes and their lives.
Now imagine what is possible in a space designed for that growth.
A kitchen where people can move freely.
Where teaching is visible.
Where everyone has a role.
Where more people can participate.
Where ideas can expand into new programs, new experiences, and new opportunities.
This is an investment in independence, confidence, and what comes next.
